Holy Wars Holy Wars contains Ed's most socially oriented music in decades. The CD's four songs, written and recorded over the period of a year, express his concern about the directions that society is taking, but end on a decidedly optimistic note. "It's been a long time since I've written a 'socially conscious' song," Ed says. "So if I'm worked up enough to write another one, that must mean I think the issue is really important..." The songs on Holy Wars deal primarily with the violence, repression, and intolerance generated when religion assumes control of government. Yet the CD's final song tells a wistful, optimistic story of what "could happen" if love and understanding replaced hatred and intolerance. Nostalgic Tears Ed Perrone's first CD is an eclectic mix of 8 songs, ranging from the mellow, folksy title track to the catchy, techno-pop stylings of With the Top Down. The CD's 7 instrumental songs (all but Nostalgic Tears are instrumental) primarily feature Perrone's guitar playing, although Descent is an ethereal, synthesizer-based composition with nary a guitar to be found. Perhaps the best word to describe this CD is "moody." Nostalgic Tears ("Vicky's Song") is joyous; Something for You is light and carefree; The Final Goodbye is haunting; With the Top Down is simply foot-tapping happy.
