Holy Wars
Holy Wars contains Ed's most socially oriented music in decades.
The CD's four songs, written and recorded over the period of a year, express his concern about the directions
that society is taking, but end on a decidedly optimistic note.
"It's been a long time since I've written a 'socially conscious' song," Ed says.
"So if I'm worked up enough to write another one, that must mean I think the issue is really
important..."
The songs on Holy Wars deal primarily with the violence,
repression, and intolerance generated when religion assumes control of government. Yet the CD's final
song tells a wistful, optimistic story of what "could happen" if love and understanding
replaced hatred and intolerance.
The songs "Inquisition" and "If Jesus Met Mohammed" from this CD
are featured on Neil Young's
Living With War Today
